At Wabasso School of Fish, Inc., our mission is to empower youth through fishing education, water safety awareness, and environmental conservation. We believe that every child should have the opportunity to connect with nature, learn essential outdoor skills, and develop a deep respect for the waterways that sustain our communities.

Through hands-on fishing lessons, interactive safety programs, and conservation initiatives, we strive to:

Teach Responsible Fishing Practices – We introduce kids to the sport of fishing while emphasizing ethical angling techniques, catch-and-release principles, and sustainable fishing methods. By equipping them with the right knowledge, we ensure they become responsible stewards of marine life.

Promote Water Safety Education – Many children in our coastal communities grow up near water, yet lack the proper training to stay safe. Our programs focus on life jacket use, boating safety, knot-tying, and emergency preparedness, helping young anglers develop confidence and awareness in aquatic environments.

Protect and Preserve the Indian River Lagoon – As one of Florida’s most diverse estuaries, the Indian River Lagoon is vital to our ecosystem. We engage youth in lagoon cleanups, habitat restoration, and marine conservation projects, teaching them how their actions directly impact the environment.

Make Outdoor Education Accessible to All – Many children do not have the resources to experience fishing or outdoor learning. We provide free fishing lessons and low-cost or donated gear, ensuring that every child—regardless of background—can participate in meaningful outdoor experiences.

Foster a Lifelong Connection with Nature – Our goal is to ignite curiosity, respect, and responsibility for our waterways. By introducing kids to fishing and conservation at an early age, we hope to instill a passion for protecting our environment that lasts a lifetime.
